BunkHunting at Hågåsen Coast Fortress

On the 4th of November, the BunkHunting crew was visiting Hågåsen Coast Fortress on the island of Hidra, located just across the bay from Flekkefjord. The nature was extraordinarily beautiful, although the weather was giving us a hard time.

The German fortress facility at Hågåsen, Hidra was the home of "Heeres Küsten-Artillerie", which was observing the activity in the coast line in this particular area. The extensive construction work was started in the early 1940's and was never officially finished, although it was used in the remaining years of WW2. The fortress consisted of 16 extension barracks , and 32 other buildings. Several hundred men were stationed here at Hågåsen. Some of the tunnels were built, but not completely finished.

On this excursion we brought a "stripling" named Simen Fjeld Saa, which was overwhelmed to get a taste of what our crew of BunkHunters does on an excursion like this. Although he was rather scared of entering the dark tunnels, we encouraged him to challenge his fear and stand up to his inner self.
Beneath the text you can see photos from the excursion
